The iron parts in sofas, cabinets and mattresses need to be shredded to release the metal before magnetic separation can work effectively. If the material layer is too thick and the metal is still wrapped in the fabric, it will be difficult to obtain a stable separation effect regardless of separator proximity.
Material characteristics
- The volume, density and material of bulky waste and mixed domestic waste change rapidly, and wood, fabric, sponge, plastic and metal may appear in the same batch.
- Springs, long fabrics, ropes and films have a tendency to become entangled, and glass, stones, batteries and sealed containers need to be identified in advance.
- The value of the project depends on subsequent sorting and receiving channels. Simply reducing capacity cannot automatically form usable products.
Key processing challenges
- The springs and nails release to varying degrees, and some of the metal is still wrapped in soft material.
- If the material layer of the conveyor belt is too thick, the distance of the magnetic field will be shortened.
- The long steel wire may drag light materials or wrap around the discharge end after being sucked up.
Equipment-selection criteria
- Determine the boundaries of unloading, grabbing, conveying and shredding equipment according to the maximum incoming material, collection and transportation mode and peak beat.
- Focus on checking anti-winding, automatic reversal, foreign object protection, cleaning convenience and shaft end sealing.
- Configure magnetic separation, screening, air separation or manual sorting according to target components such as metals, wood materials, light materials, etc.
Typical process flow
After the primary shredding, the material layer is leveled first, and then suspended magnetic separation is performed; for projects with higher requirements on metal residues, a second magnetic separation can be added after the secondary crushing or screening. The equipment height, belt speed and discharge direction need to be matched on site.
